Greek Mythology

Doctrinal Stance on the Seven Pillars of Wisdom

The Origin and Nature of the Universe

Greek Mythology: “Chaos generated the solid mass of Earth, from which arose the starry, cloud-filled Heaven. Mother Earth and Father Heaven, personified respectively as Gaea and her offspring Uranus, were the parents of the Titans.”1 One of the Titans, Prometheus, created men, then went up to heaven and secured a torch lit with the fire of the sun. Bearing this gift of fire back to earth, he earned the wrath of Zeus who reacted by chaining Prometheus to a rock. Zeus is considered the father of all gods and mortals, yet he did not create either of these. He fills a fatherly role only in the sense of being the head of the Olympian family, the ruler of the world and protector of all.
