Laura Maxwell’s Story
Leaving Luciferianism, the New Age, and Spiritualism for the True God

Laura Maxwell lives in the UK and is a frequent guest on many secular, New Age, and Christian talk shows and podcasts concerning her past involvements in spiritualism and the New Age and her present Christian worldview.

When my mother and I were involved in New Age spiritualism, we were taught the true god is Lucifer and that he will unite the world peacefully under a one world religion and government. But now, as a former New Ager, I expose the truth and globalist Luciferian agenda, from my inside knowledge of Luciferianism and Theosophy.

Early Days

Spiritual phenomena interested me since childhood. I loved reading children’s books containing ‘ghost stories,’ or watching TV programs about aliens and other spirit entities.

A few psychic episodes as a child added to the intrigue I felt. My mother had also experienced psychic events since her childhood but didn’t pursue these until later. When I reached my teens, she felt ready. When walking her dogs one day, a medium approached my mum. He said, he saw her potential as a medium and invited her to a Spiritualist Church in Glasgow, Scotland, where we lived.

Very quickly, Mum became totally engrossed by the supernatural. As a new member of the Spiritualist Church, she attended Sunday services, mid-week psychic development groups, yoga and meditation classes. She shared everything she learned with me, and I also became fascinated. Her heart’s desire was to train in mediumship and the other mediums encouraged this. They asked her to join an Open Circle and learn to meditate, in order to channel alleged spirit guides and spirits of the deceased. Mum was keen to develop her abilities of clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsentience and to learn from other mediums.

Every time, Mum booked a private sitting for a life reading with a resident, or visiting medium, she would buy a recording of the session. We’d listen to it later that day. It amazed me that a half-hour recording could contain so much communication from spirits, spirit guides, or ascended masters. Exact details were relayed about our lives. Precise names, places and dates were often given. It was obvious the mediums were not charlatans, or falling upon details by sheer chance. They accurately described the physical appearance, personalities and even repeated common phrases of our apparent dead relatives, as they supposedly conversed with them.

I also joined the Spiritualist Church in Glasgow. Mum and I devoured mystical books on yoga, balancing the chakras, crystals, healing, reincarnation, past lives, alternative therapies, etc. Attending New Age centres and psychic fairs, we absorbed as much information as we could to help in our ‘spiritual enlightenment.’ We wanted others to join us in this ‘new age journey to raise our vibrations and expand the collective consciousness of mankind.’

With our passion for environmental and conservation concerns, social justice, and international peace, we gladly participated in healing people and animals, through either contact, or distant psychic healing. It was not until later that we discovered these were false healings. Although real, they were demonic counterfeits of true healing by the Holy Spirit. The Bible explains that Satan and demons can perform miracles, signs and wonders which deceive people. (See Matthew 24:24.)

Norman Vincent Peale (1898-1993), one of the fathers of the positive thinking movement, taught a deceptive mixture of Christian, New Age, and New Thought doctrine.

We also read books on positive thinking. A favourite was, The Power of Positive Thinking, by Norman Vincent Peale, who claimed to be a Christian but was a 33rd degree Freemason, who believed in clairvoyance, claiming to see his dead father at meetings.

Going Deeper

Eventually, we attended transfiguration sessions, where the image of dead relatives would literally appear through the medium’s face and body to speak with the audience. Mum developed in the area of automatic writing. Mediums predicted I’d become an author on behalf of spirit guides, as well as a psychic artist, drawing portraits of ‘dead relatives and spirit guides’ for clients. I briefly experimented with Kirlian Photography, using infrared film, capturing images of ectoplasm as it formed.

Over the next 10-15 years, we would often hear of mediums and other channelers who could no longer control when spirits spoke to, or through them. Many mediums had nervous breakdowns. Some attacked people claiming their spirit guides had forced them to, or they were admitted to psychiatric wards.

We heard reports of poltergeist type activity in medium’s homes. At first, we accepted explanations that mischievous or obnoxious spirits could sometimes come through and it was a potential hazard of the job. But when it happened to us, it became difficult to tolerate and almost impossible to function properly.

Our beloved friends, the other psychics and mediums, kindly tried, but failed to free our home from spirits. The spirits spoke to Mum constantly, depriving her of sleep, attacking her physically, thumping loudly from within wardrobes, slamming all the doors, etc.

San Antonio Firefighters offer helpful tips to prevent kitchen fires | WOAI
When Laura’s mother was forced into a trance while cooking, it almost proved disastrous. The agenda of evil spirits is always to “steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10).

On one of the occasions when they forced her into a trance against her will, she was frying food. When she came out of trance, the kitchen was consumed by fire. I arrived home after the Fire Brigade had extinguished it, just before it spread to other rooms. We all realized Mum, our dogs and cats could have been killed.

One afternoon, Mum’s elderly aunt who had also visited spiritualist churches, felt invisible hands grab her and throw her down the stairs. Her wrist was broken. Another day, while approaching shops, I watched in horror as Mum was lifted from the ground and catapulted from the pavement, landing on the bonnet of a passing car. This particular incident happened more than once.

Hellish Encounters

We decided to withdraw from spiritualism and the New Age. We asked our spirit guides to leave. To our shock, they laughed and insulted us. They began to physically attack us. This was perplexing, as they had provided guidance and kindness for many years. It became obvious they had clearly deceived us, pretending to be benevolent and kind, when in reality they were wicked all along.

The biggest shock however came when even our supposed ‘dead relatives’ turned against us. They also mocked and hit us. The spirits warned we could not leave the occult, as we had unknowingly given them control from the first day we invited them into our lives!  It became clear to Mum and I there was something not right about spirit communication, if even the mediums who had first channelled our ‘spirit friends’ to us, had not discerned their true identity.

A Christian Encounter

A Christian I had met in a psychology tutorial, at university, invited me to her Pentecostal Church, explaining other psychics who had experienced similar tragedies were set free from spiritual attacks when they accepted the biblical Jesus Christ as their Saviour, (not the New Age false Christ, or the false concept of Christ Consciousness). I renounced spiritualism and became a Christian.

A Darker Tragedy Strikes

Mum’s health deteriorated and her ‘spirit guides’ threatened to use her to kill people (or at least, that is what they communicated). Mum asked her doctors for sleeping pills, but refusing to accept poltergeist activity was true, they instead diagnosed her as schizophrenic. Mum was detained in a psychiatric hospital, much to the utter shock of us all.

Although my Mum gave her heart to Jesus a few months later, the Pentecostal Church I had joined had no experience, at that point, of helping people like Mum. At that time, they didn’t operate in the deliverance ministry. As a baby Christian myself, I didn’t yet know there were Christians who could have cast those demons out of her in Jesus’ name, just like Jesus and His followers did in the Bible.

After months of heavy sedation, the psychiatrists discharged her, but when she returned home, she endured further harassment from spirits. As the church I belonged to sadly did not yet understand how to cast demons out of homes or people, much to my horror, my mother tragically committed suicide.

Later, I found pastors from another church, experienced in deliverance prayer (casting out demons). They visited my mum’s home, successfully cleansing it the first time they prayed. At the name of Jesus, all the spirits left. Later, I sold Mum’s home without worrying the new tenants would be harassed.

I feel this emphasizes the crucial importance for Christians to embrace the deliverance ministry (a correct and balanced view) and be God’s instruments to bring freedom to such tortured people in Jesus’ name-something that I do as a part of my ministry now. I have learned my authority as a believer, that the scripture is so true—“Greater is He [Jesus], that is in you; than he [satan] that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

My Chains Are Gone!

Called to Conflict - Part 1 of 3 (Acts 16:16-18) — Communion Chapel
The woman with a “spirit of divination” who followed Paul actually said something correct (“These men are servants of the most high God”) but the spirit behind her words was not God’s Spirit, but an evil spirit. Partial truth is the bait for deception.

I also needed deliverance ministry. Evil spirits were cast out of me in Jesus’ name. Once the demons and curses were taken from me, I no longer experienced psychic phenomenon, and I was no longer contacted by spirits ever again! Just like the girl in the book of Acts 16, verses 16-18. Hallelujah!

It’s not rare for someone involved in spirit channelling to contemplate, or actually, commit suicide. My mother was not the only one. Since her death in 1994, I’ve heard of many individuals around the world, affected by spirit communication, the new age or occult, who have ended up in psychiatric wards, or their family have said they killed themselves. However, it’s also common to hear if such persons become Christians and receive deliverance ministry that they are freed from evil spirits, they no longer feel suicidal.

The Pentecostal Church I now attend does not embrace dead religious traditions. Instead, it’s lively, loving, and joyful. Members are gifted by the Holy Spirit to prophesy about the future, bodies are healed, and other miracles, signs and wonders occur. Actually, in a couple of years, I saw more peopled divinely healed in Pentecostal churches than the demonic counterfeit ‘healings’ I witnessed in over ten years at spiritualist churches. There is a difference, a big difference.

Deception Exposed

When I became a Christian, even before I read the biblical warnings of the occult in Deuteronomy 18:9-13 and other passages, I realized the truth. The missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle fit into place. When our ‘dead relatives and spirit guides’ began to attack Mum and me, it indicated they were actually evil spirits who had deceived us, and that they merely impersonated our loved ones.

It made complete sense when Christians explained that it is impossible for dead souls to return to talk with us, as they remain in heaven or hell for eternity. “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27).

Also, spirits are evil ‘fallen angels.’ They’ve existed since creation, possessing knowledge of our families and historical figures down through the generations. They can easily disguise their evil form and morph shape, to mimic our ‘deceased family members,’ to pose as ‘spirit guides,’ ascended masters, aliens, or any famous celebrities that have ever lived.

The Bible explains that entities who work through channelers, witches, mediums, ghost hunters, etc, are actually “familiar spirits.” They are ancient and because of that, they may be very familiar with how your ancestors looked and spoke. These familiar spirits are   actually demons (evil spirits). Demons can remember and impersonate ancestors, as they are often passed down through generational lines during their time in this world. Thus, these entities can mimic them perfectly.

This was confirmed in 2 Corinthians 11 to 14, a passage that warns: “And no wonder! For Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” The evil spirits working through spiritualism, and all forms of spirit contact, channelling, etc, serve Satan in deceiving precious people into believing they are their dead relatives, spirit guides and other entities, goddesses, aliens, etc.

What is their aim in all of this? To steer people away from the Gospel which alone provides true salvation or to promote the ultimate deception by convincing people the Bible is false, Jesus Christ is not the Saviour and that there is no heaven and hell.

Helena Blavatsky - Wikipedia
Helena Blavatsky founded the Theosophical Society. She believed in Luciferianism and is considered the ‘mother’ of modern-day, New Age spirituality. She was a very dark soul.

This makes sense, because many top mediums today and throughout modern history have  claimed Lucifer is god and the source of all psychic powers and religions, such as Madam Helena Blavatsky, Alice Bailey, Benjamin Creme, and so on. They taught Lucifer is still an angel of light; or the Saviour-Teacher, and that he did not fall and become Satan, as the Bible states. Thus, Luciferianism and Theosophy are the main roots of the New Age and spiritualism. My mother and I believed this, too, and we admired authors such as Helena Blavatsky, the famous self-proclaimed Luciferian medium, known as “Mother of the New Age Movement.”

Before I left the occult, I was unaware the Bible advises in 1 John 4:1-3

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God … every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus has come in the flesh is not of God … And this is the spirit of the Antichrist.

I now know New Agers are deceived, especially in the teaching that Lucifer is God. I also realize that the Antichrist will deceive the world in the last days, promising world peace but only ushering in global chaos, suffering, death, and Armageddon.

A Crucial Observation

Since I left spiritualism and the New Age, and became a Christian, I have never been contacted by any spirit claiming to be a ‘dead relative,’ ‘alien,’ or ‘spirit guide’ ever again! All such paranormal activity stopped, when I knew the truth, that they were demons impersonating family, or spiritual beings! If they were truly real, surely, they would have continued trying to ‘contact’ me.

Sharing Truth with Others

As a spiritualist, I believed Jesus was just a part of the universal consciousness, a great reincarnated Ascended Master, teacher or a psychic healer.

Since my conversion in 1994, I have met, spoken to, and heard of countless ex-psychic mediums, Ex-psychic healers, ex-witches, ex-Luciferians and even ex-Satanists, who also discovered the entities masquerading as their ‘spirit guides’ or ‘dead relatives’ were not who they claimed to be. These people were also set free from demonic attacks after receiving the Lord Jesus Christ into their lives and receiving His deliverance and freedom.

Jesus has given me joy and peace I simply never knew existed. His very tangible Presence of pure love is more real than any powerful encounter I experienced during my years in spiritualism, New Age spirituality, and other mystical practises. Please, turn from any false gods or demonic practises of the New Age and receive this Jesus, the Son of God,  as your Saviour, asking Him to forgive and deliver you from all of your past. He promises to never leave you, nor forsake you. He promises to grant you the gift of eternal life, that you will spend eternity with Him in heaven.

A Final Word

I continue to hear of more people worldwide who are turning away from channelling spirits, from yoga, meditation and other practices of the New Age and occult, who have been saved and freed by the transforming, mighty power of our loving Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Laura often shares her story on talk shows, as well as interviewing guests herself.

I’ve been delighted to host podcasts, interviewing ex-occultists and others for their conversion stories and sharing their outreach work to those in new age, various cults and the occult. It has also been a great honour to be a guest speaker on TV and radio, and to minister in many different venues and conferences. ____________________________________

  • Thankyou very much!
I was connected to Rudolf Steiner and anthroposophy for many years but left it a halfyear ago. I found a biblesite where I could find christian help to my first steps to salvation. It’s slow but ongoing. I’m very grateful for this. Your story is very gripping and confirms so much I couldn’t put words on. A great help for many people.
    All the best!
